There are many traditions practiced around the world to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Of them, the idea of ensuring good luck for the year ahead is something we can all get behind. Lets take a look at some plants that bring good luck anytime of year.

Lunar New Year is also called Chinese New Year or Spring Festival in some areas. This holiday is celebrated sometime between the end of January and the end of February depending on lunar calendar and the new moon that coincides with it during that time. There are many traditions practiced around the world to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Of them, the idea of ensuring good luck is something we can all get behind.

Plants that Bring Good Luck

Often, thoughts of spring during a cold, dark winter, gives hope for brighter, warmer days ahead. What better way to get into the spring mood than thoughts of plants? Check out these plants that are said to bring good luck throughout the year. And, if given the right conditions are easy to care for no matter what the season.

  1. Money Tree – (Pachira aquatica) Bright, green, leaves at the top, uniquely braided trunk; this plant needs bright indirect light; water once a week.
  2. Orchids – With a variety to choose from, these plants need bright indirect light and need to be fertilized frequently, depending on the size, you may only need an ice cube once a week to keep this plant going.
  3. Bromeliad – This exotic beauty requires bright, indirect sunlight and likes warmer indoor temperatures (between 65-80 degrees). If you can accommodate these requirements you can have a beautiful houseplant for years! Watering is easy, if you follow these tips from Nature Hills Nursery – keep roots misted daily and the soil wet, but never soggy, and make sure there is always one to two inches of water in the flower cup below it.
  4. Peace Lily – (Spathiphyllum wallisii) said to clean the air and clear your head, this lush green leafed beauty is low maintenance. Pale flowered blooms can last up to 2 months. Just remember to water it once a week, and make sure its in a room that has filtered light.
  5. Anthurium – Looking for a plant with a tropical look? This plant has gorgeous green leaves and long-Lasting Red Leaf flower looking leaves. It needs bright indirect light, and water Nature Hills Nursery recommends keeping the soil damp, but never wet. Mist it and rotate the plant regularly.

The answer is any of these. Plants liven up your living space and filter the air. Some studies have suggested that plants boost creativity and help reduce stress levels. These befits alone can help you create your own luck, without waiting for good luck to happen to you. Remember too that these plants aren’t going to take care of themselves, they’ll need some water and light to thrive.
