Perspective is your take on a situation. Taking back control is trusting yourself. Whether you are having an internal conflict or a conflict with another person, taking time to focus on your feelings and views will help you gain perspective. This in it of itself is going to give you control.
Things to Consider
Communicating in a thoughtful way can keep a situation from turning ugly. Knowing where you stand and articulating that in a respectable manner takes practice and consideration. How many times have you said something and you didn’t want it to become a “thing,” only to realize you stepped in it and there is no going back?
Keep Emotions in Check
Being present is helpful when keeping emotions in check. If possible, express your thoughts without getting upset. This takes practice and may require you to take a minute to collect your emotions, and refocus. Silence for a few minutes is better than saying something you will regret later.
Try to see where the other person is coming from
Even if you don’t agree with the other person’s point of view, try to see where they are coming from. This may help in keeping the peace, at least internally, while still getting your point across. Where you may run into a problem, or feel frustration, is when the other person isn’t hearing your side. More on this in a later post.
Agree to Disagree
Its ok to have a differing perspective as long as both parties can respect that decision and each other. Let the other person know that they are being heard, even if you disagree with their point of view, they will feel validated and that can diffuse the situation. Depending on how important the issue is to you, it may be best to reset and collect your thoughts before revisiting this again. Giving time to an issue may bring you the answer you need to move forward confidently.
Coming to a Place of Peace
Its not always easy. But accepting that you can choose how you feel and how you react is power in it of itself. Believe that you have some, if not all the information you need to fix a situation, at least your perspective of it. Learning to quiet your mind and focus on what is best for you will help in releasing unpleasant feelings about what is bothering you.
Ask for Help
Sometimes you can’t focus and you need help. Talk to someone that can give an unbiased opinion. Through experience, I have learned that the best answers come from within. Mediation is great, but this takes practice and if you’ve never done it before, you may need some guidance. There are plenty of free resources available to get started. Also, you can check out Net of Love, this site and its founder, Amanda, has helped me tremendously with finding my inner voice. In some cases you may need the help of a professional practitioner.

Refocus
Recognize your potential. Refocus on what is important. Observe the feelings that make you happy and live for those feelings. Being happier will bring a clearer perspective to your life. So, step back, regroup, recharge, and refocus. Best of luck to you.
